LXQT is the next generation desktop environment which will replace LXDE soon, by default xubuntu comes with xfce desktop environment but if you like you can try LXQT on xubuntu, in this article i will show you how to install LXQT on xubuntu 16.04.
Even though we are going to install LXQT we still be able to switch to xfce desktop, so no worry, you can go back to your regular xubuntu desktop.
How to install LXQT desktop on xubuntu 16.04:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lxqt
After install, you need to logout and then on the xubuntu login screen, look at the top bar, next to the language selection, you will see the option to switch to 'LXQt Desktop', choose that and login.
To switch back to xfce, simply go to login screen and choose 'Xfce Session' or 'Xubuntu Session'.
